Wildflowers, Wineries and More Reasons to Visit Fredericksburg, TX

Early German settlers to Fredericksburg were granted 10 outlying acres on which to start new lives as farmers and ranchers. They were also given a small in-town plot on week to build a simple cottage where they could stay while shopping or attending church. Eventually, most of these “Sunday Houses,” as they are known, were torn down as newcomers became more prosperous and automobile transportation made their journeys easier. Those that remain are highly prized.

Learn more about Sunday Houses and other reasons to visit the charming German-Texan town in verdant Hill Country, as I learned during a media visit. My photos and story, “Fredericksburg, TX: Where You Can Sleep In A Sunday House Every Night of the Week,” was published in Loop North Chicago.
