Get Into Airplane Mode with ONÅ New York Beauty
Whether you’re flying or not, Onå gel masks soothe and rehydrate tired skin.
I had SO many plans upended by the insidious spread of COVID-19, including this post. My intention was to test-drive the Airplane Mode Intense Hydration Gel Mask by Onå New York after my next flight. That’s when my complexion feels incredibly dry and grimy, despite lathering on the moisturizer.
Well, we all know what happened to that idea. I haven’t been on an airplane since February. But after six months of sheltering-in-place, I’m definitely feeling the fatigue of a drastically curtailed lifestyle. This is a tense time for everyone, and it shows on my face. I decided it’s time to try a new beauty treatment, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be in the air any time soon. So I brought out the samples Onå New York graciously sent me. (Gotta love the name–Airplane Mode!)

Onå New York is a clean, plant-based collection inspired by centuries-old Russian skincare rituals and remediations. The name is pronounced “ow-na,” and it translates to “she” in Slavic languages. The collection of moisturizers and serums for face and eyes is designed to protect skin from the effects of environmental pollution, travel and other toxins. All products are PETA-certified vegan and cruelty free.
The key natural ingredients in the Airplane Mode Intense Hydration Gel Mask are: hyaluronic acid, a humectant to retain moisture; beta glucan, a sugar that smooths and calms irritated skin; chamomile, an anti-inflammatory; and camellia japonica, a vitamin-rich botanical.
Here’s how to use it: Cleanse as usual. Open the packet, unfold and remove the protective backing. Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes or more. Remove the mask, and massage the remaining serum into your skin. No need to rinse.

The slick, shiny mask is easy to manipulate. It comes in two parts–an upper piece with cutouts for your eyes and nose, and a lower piece with a cutout for your mouth. I left mine on for about 25 minutes, and took a few pictures. (Full disclosure: Yes, I applied just a tad of eyeliner and mascara; otherwise, my eyes would disappear.) Afterward, my complexion felt silky and polished. I dabbed a thin layer of Onå New York Rejuvenating Serum for good measure, but you don’t have to do this.

And now, it’s time for me to get dressed for dinner–a socially distanced dinner outdoors with a friend. Face masks, of a different kind, are required to keep everyone safe.
The Airplane Mode Intense Hydration Gel Mask is $9 for a single mask or $40 for a box of 5. Shop online at Onå New York.
