Kohler Terrapins: Is This the Best Chocolate Ever?
I’m not big on sweets, but if I indulge, it’s got to be really, really good. My preference is for concoctions of chocolate (dark, please), nuts and caramel, but definitely not the Halloween-grade stuff.
Recently I discovered Original Buttery Terrapins, the signature turtle candy of the Kohler Company. They are melt-in-your-mouth magic! The recipe is a blend of silky chocolate, salted pecans and–here’s the best part–smoky, burnt caramel. I could eat a dozen at a time, and the reactive hypoglycemia attack afterward would be worth it. Kohler claims Terrapins are the finest version of the turtle in the world. I don’t disagree.
You may not immediately connect Kohler, a long-time manufacturer of kitchen and bath plumbing products with a premier candy. But the company also operates luxury hotels and fine dining establishments, most notably the five-star American Club resort and spa in Kohler, Wisconsin. Terrapins were created by renowned Kohler chefs in 2007. With such an elevated creation, they needed an elevated name. Hence, the terrapin, a turtle species of its own.
Terrapins and other Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates are available at the Craverie Chocolatier Cafe, on the premises of The American Club. They also are online at http://www.kohlerchocolates.com. Prices start at 4 for $12.
