A delightful place to anchor your stay in Sault Ste. Marie is the Adoba Lockview Motel. It’s a comfortable motel with affordable prices and a friendly 24-hour staff.

Adoba Lockview Motel is cozy, comfy and downtown Sault Ste. Marie.

The key advantage to staying at the Adoba Lockview Motel is its downtown location on historic Portage Avenue. Just across the street is Soo Locks Park. Visitors and residents alike flock to the elevated observation stands to watch the dozens of boats and freighters that cruise through a sophisticated system of locks every day. You can see Canada on the other side of the water.

Within easy walking distance of the Adoba Lockview Motel are myriad eateries, art galleries, gift shops and major attractions like the Museum Ship Valley Camp, Tower of History and Soo Locks Boat Tours.

As you pull into the driveway, you’ll note the welcoming emerald-green awnings and hanging geranium baskets that mark each door. The motel has 47 guest rooms and cottages on two levels. All rooms have large picture windows, and some have balconies and views of the locks. It’s an older property with retro charm.

My room was definitely on the cozy side, but clean and quiet. The queen-size bed offered a plush-top mattress and floral coverlet for a soothing sleep. All rooms are appointed with flat-screen television, cable, refrigerator, microwave and writing desk. A deluxe self-serve continental breakfast is available each morning in the lobby. Wi-fi is included.

Adoba Lockview Motel is open for guests May through mid-October.
